Wow! I broke in there in 1967 learning to deal quarter
Craps. Those old school gamblers were tough and strict
teachers. I was told to “dummy up and deal, kid” and “don’t
smarten nobody up” more than once. I remember the shill
boss was an old guy who would play Keno the whole shift
and one night he hit for $25,000. The owners tried to pay
him off with points in the joint but he wouldn’t hear of it.
There were lots of characters around in those days many
of them trying to get an edge or take a shot or just trying
to swipe a cigarette out of the dispenser on the 21 game.
On my breaks I’d go across the street to the Las Vegas club
and watch the Faro game. Good old days.
