The current/old server doesn’t allow you to do basic firewall management, and since traffic is coming from lots of sources all over the world, it is my opinion you’re just getting all of the same traffic that every ISP gets, but you don’t (until now) have a way to manage it
With the new server, you have full control over the firewall and should be able to reduce unwanted traffic by at least 90% with hardly any effort. Modern firewalls have built-in rules to look for attacks and abuse.
I think throwing out suspicion and rumors is unwarranted and certainly not productive.
Let’s just see how things look after a week of so of being on the new server. I will be glad to help you find tune things if you need me.
