Learning to deal dice in the 60s, I handed plenty of
of quarter and dime chips. Starting as a shill at the
Golden Gate, they would give you a stack of quarters
that you would arrange four up and four sideways.
Other shills got the same amount. They wanted to
make sure nobody ratholed any! They told you to
buy chips from another casino to practice cutting
with. At the Plaza I dealt a quarter game with chips
ranging up to $500. At the Overland in Reno I dealt
dimes on a table where the base dealer also handled
the stick-a lot of work! I played on a dime game at
Harrah’s where I was able to rathole a full box (100).
Next door at the Nevada Club I remember a game
where you you could bet actual dimes and quarters!
Fun times that are long gone.
