I'll assume you knew Greg very well, or else you wouldn't be speaking for him.
I knew Greg well myself. I considered him one of my best friends in the hobby. He loved this club and did all he could to promote and help it.
Bob talked about it above, but its worth mentioning again. Greg's ChipGuide was primitive compared to what it is today. The functions that Greg built are still open to ALL. The additional features that were created by the club are what are being limited to club members only. Anyone can access the map (Greg's creation) and drill down to access any of the hundreds of thousands of pictures. If someone wants to use the enhanced features, then they need to log-in as members.
I don't think people understand just how dangerous things have gotten for the club. It's been said that the HOBBY is strong, but the CLUB membership is declining. Why is that? One thing we have identified is that potential members question what benefits they get for joining. There is the quarterly magazine, yes, but after that?
Should we give everything way for free to promote the hobby? Free admission into the convention? Post the magazine for free? All that would be great, but at what cost. The club has very few assets, and the ChipGuide is one of them.
