How much does it cost to grade and slab a coin with NGC or PCGS?
And for additional comparison, cost to grade and slab a sports card with PSA (or Becket?) etc.?
(Those are the graders I've heard of, there may be others too. I've never done 3rd party grading & slabbing, as I don't collect coins or sports cards ... or comics either.)
Seeking as estimate for: Total cost to (1) mail it in (insured), (2) grade / slab / return mail (insured), etc.
Is there are rule of thumb in those collectible categories about minimum estimated value of the item in order to make it worthwhile to do? That is, should a coin be worth a minimum of $50 or $100 or $xxx? to make it economical to do in the first place? Is condition a key factor in sending or not sending? That is, the item should grade out at least 65? or 68? or xx? on the 70-point coin scale, or an 8.0+ or xx+ on the 10-point sports card scale to be worth grading & slabbing? Otherwise, it's a waste to send it in? I'm a total newbie on all of the above.
For transparency, I'm on the "no" side of slabbing for chips, but I'm willing to hear some economics, and decision guidelines, pro & con, about grading & slabbing as done with other collectibles.
