Two of the objections to chip slabbing were: "Who will do the authentication?" another was "Chips can't be rated on a 0-70 scale". So about ten years ago I wrote a post entitled "What if Doug Saito Were a Slabber?" In the post I indicated that the condition ratings would adhere to the CCGTCC guidelines. Why wouldn't this address these objections?
Almost all the responses expressed outrage that I would include Doug's name along with this evil practice. Doug thought this episode was hilarious and needled me about it for years afterwards. I concluded that the anti-slabbing position was more a religion and, therefore, not to be challenged.
As an aside, Barry Sherwood was at my table at the Convention Banquet and I asked his position on the topic. I'll leave its to him to decide whether or when to discuss the subject.
