These 2 chips from the 1970s always interested me. (No I don't have them, nor can afford them at "Z+" levels
The Caesars chip has Frank Sinatra on it (in .999 Silver) and the MGM Grand (original) has Dean Martin on it (also .999 Silver).
They're listed as "House" mold chips, so no maker noted. I'm guessing they were made by Bud Jones -- see a BJ sample with a coin in center and writing where a mold would be. BUT the Caesars and MGM Grand chips have cross-hatching on the surface, which Bud Jones never did on their plastic injection molded chips. However, they DID do cross-hatching on their clay chips with inlays. (See examples of each kind of BJ chips below.) And of course, the use of .999 Silver as the coin center material is unique to these 2 chips, as far as I know.
Perhaps a hybrid manufacturing process by Bud Jones on these "special order" chips (which must have been expensive to make) and so we never saw other chips that looked like these? Just trying to do some detective work.
So whaddaya think? Bud Jones -- yes or no?
