I think every man who survives to 75 gets gout, Jim. The usual treatment to reduce uric acid is Allopruinol. I take it every morning.
If you have a sharp pain, usually in a foot around your big toe, the usual treatment is ibuprofin. A stronger pain killer is indomethacin. I use it maybe once or twice a years. When you get your first bout with gout, I suggest seeing your MD as you'll need prescriptions for the strong stuff anyway.
Your Doc will undoubtedly recommend some lifestyle changes but they aren't too severe.
