John, whether you agree or disagree, almost every non-party poll shows at least a plurality of Americans want to get out of Iraq. The exit polls during the primaries have suggested that among those that consider the war the most important issue, getting out has been overwhelminging the view (but as I am sure you would point out, the dems have voted in larger numbers in the primaries because they have had a legitimate conflicted race far longer than the GOP). It would also be fair to acknowledge that the economy is rolling over the war as the most important issue, and as such, historically, incumbent parties get booted when the economy is bad. If the economies had tanked 6 months earlier than they did, we may very may be looking at very different candidates leading in the races. The economy played almost no part in the outcomes as late as super tuesday.
