Re: Small-town stuff…odds & ends, and The End sad

One small town I’ve never seen mentioned I once had a notable experience in. I was driving down I-80 around 1988, and decided to visit a fine dining restaurant in Midas, a town with a population of 8 about 40 miles north of Winnemucca. This restaurant advertised that they flew in live lobsters. Well, the road got worse and worse, and halfway there, I get a flat tire. I’m driving a Cadillac Eldorado and you need a special tool to change the tires, so I’m stranded and it’s getting dark. After a half hour, not a single car has passed so I decide to walk in the dark, and I mean pitch dark. For two hours I walk and not a single car passes me in either direction. Finally a truck approaches and stops for me. It is Sam Seals, a name I will never forget. His truck is full of supplies, so I have to climb in the back. We go to his house in Midas and he gets his tool set and back at the car he helps me put on my spare. He says he has a shack where miners stay during the summer and I can stay there for the night. No windows or doors. The next day, he drives me around, gives me a tour, and introduces me to the other 7 residents of Midas. I traded letters with Sam and his wife Edith for some time afterwards. Does anyone know the name of the world class restaurant that used to be in Midas, NV? Can’t for the life of me remember it, but I think I got the name from Nevada magazine.
