Re: Illegal gambling; Canarsie section of Brooklyn

I grew up in Canarsie from 3rd grade through High School - Samuel J Tilden (Canarsie High was not yet built).
We were on East 89th Street between Flatlands and Ave J, one block off of Remsen.
I recently found out that Curtis Sliwa grew up a few houses down.
It was designated a Play Street with signs partially blocking at both ends.
Great street with lots of kids.
We left for North Massapequa when I was 16, so I had no knowledge of Club Gambling then.
Nice memories.
