Re: 1976 Color TV at the Eldorado

Hard to believe that Color TV was in an advert, how much has life changed - now guests want TV's that can play netflix from their phones!!

1972 marked the year that more than 50% of the households in the US had a color TV.

I bought my first color TV in 1972 with the reasoning that NFL was going to be better in color than black and white.

By the way, I bought my Sony SL-7200 Betmax in 1976, $1,200, which the first model recorded 1 hour on a tape, it had rotary tuning and the timer was an accessory. They did come out with a 90 minutes tape soon after that and they listed at $20 and by buying them in a case of ten, I got the price down to $15 each.

Indy 500 (because I'm a fan) From 1971 to 1985 was shown same day, on a tape delay basis. It wasn't until 1986 that the race was first shown life on TV. Because of the years before that, when I listened on the radio, and waited a week to see a condensed version, or the tape delay, to this day, I listen on the radio and record the race, so I can watch it that night or a day after. But 1986 was the first live network broadcast. There were closed circuit and theater events until 1985.

That's when you had to go to the movie theater for Pay TV? vbg

Yeah I think that was a thing. I seem to remember when I was on the road, hotels/motels that had a sign outside that said "Color TV".
