Hey Jeff J. - Here is my "Rare" one of a kind.....

......Santa Ysabel Roulette chip in Orange - I believe your chip is in Yellow. So we both have a "one of a kind chip". However there were probably around 200 to 300 of each of these chips made for play at Table A sometime while the Santa Ysabel Casino was in operation. Where are the other 199 to 299 of these chips ?? Where they destroyed ?? Does a former employee have 2 or 3 boxes sitting on a shelf at home ?? We probably will never know for sure !!
As far as value is concerned I doubt if any collector would pay $20 or $30 for one of these chips - the demand for these chips is just not that high.
I have 100s and possibly 1000s of chips that are not listed in the Chip Guide or any other guide - does that make them "Rare" - NO - it just makes them unlisted.
Truly "Rare" chips or tokens are ones that only 1 or 2 (or a small handful were ever made) - like some manufacturer's samples or prototypes. Again these chips may be "Rare" but NOT of great value unless you can find a collector (or two) who really wants them and will pay almost anything to get one in their collection.
Other chips may be considered "Rare" because only a couple have been confirmed to exist even though 1000s or 10000s of these chips were originally in play at a particular Casino.
In conclusion "Rarity" does NOT necessarily equate to "Value" and "Unlisted" does NOT necessarily mean a chip is "Rare".
Take care,
"Mr. Roulette"
