I remember going to the grand opening of JBs Riverside in 1971. Bill Harrah shot $200 on the
first roll of the dice. I think he signed the bills before they were dropped. Most of the dealers
were from Harolds Club that were loyal to Jessie Beck. All the women were required to wear
cameos. I remember watching Jessie deal 21 and one time she lost a lot money to a high roller.
That was the end of her career as a dealer. Jessie was well-liked and would send care packages
to guys in the military. When I was in Vietnam on an aircraft carrier one of the squadrons had
a fighter named Lady Jessie in honor of Jessie Beck. I would be on watch during landings and
never saw her miss the arresting cable.
