Monfalcone (So.Cal. gambling ship)

I watched an episode on National Geographic Channel last night -- series titled "Drain the Ocean - Hollywood" (Season 4 / Episode 4). New as of last night.

The 1-hour program included 3 different stories, the 3rd of which was about the wreckage of the Monfalcone on the bottom of the bay off Long Beach, CA. About 20 minutes long.

A brief internet search turned up a site to purchase it, but as yet, I didn't locate a place to stream it for free.

Anyway, the grandson of Jack Dragna (L.A. gangster) was interested in what happened to the Monfalcone, as it had a fire / explosion that burned it down to the waterline, then sank. Interesting to watch, as the divers found the wreckage and the graphics folks reconstructed what it looked like -- fine dining, gambling on the 2nd deck, etc.

Worth the 20 minutes to watch (the last 20 minutes of the program), if you're interested in the era of off-shore gambling boats off So.California waters in the 1930's.

(For a more complete story of the Monfalcone, it's covered more fully in Ernie Marquez' book "Noir Afloat".)

Here's matchbook from MOGH/ChipGuide:
