Just A Guess...

Several years ago, I did a story entitled, "Best Kept Secret Of World War II" after visiting Wendover Field in Wendover, Utah -- on state line with Nevada. It was there, the U.S. conducted testing of how to deliver the atomic bomb named "Big Boy." The top secret project has been de-classified, and records show that the Enola Gay --B29 Superfortress that dropped the A-bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on Aug. 6, 1945 -- practiced dropping the bomb and using a very secret aiming bomb sight. If you go to one of the casinos in Wendover, there is a bus that will take you on a tour of Wendover Field where there is museum chocked full of memorabilia including a replica of "Big Boy" and photos of aircraft commander Col. Tibbits -- a Texan and avid cowboy. In that museum, I remember seeing the atomic filed with a "cowboy riding with hat in hand." It was believed that 700 federal agents provided security for the test field which sprawled over 750 acres. If you are interested in learning more about this secret, historic mission. Try Wikipedia -- Wendover Air Force Base.
