Casinò del Lago di Garda ( Casino di Gardone Riviera)
Gardone Riviera is a town and comune in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy. It is situated on the western shore of Lake Garda.
Gardone was occupied by French, from 1815 it passed under the dominion of Austria , in 1859 was annexed with Lombardy to the Kingdom of Sardinia ,and became Italian in 1861.
From the 19th century, Gardone Riviera has historically been one of the most famous tourist resorts , attracting the aristocratic tourism of yesteryear .The first flows of visitors were actually moved by the studies of German doctor who made the beneficial effects of the Garda climate known to the international scientific community. The town quickly turned into a successful winter health resort and international tourism began to frequent the area, attracting the investments of German high society. From Germany noble and rich industrialists came to spend the winter on Lake Garda together with other wealthy and highly placed tourists from the Italian peninsula.
In the Belle Époque, many Austrian and German families built splendid residences by the lake.

In 1908 the committee for the Health Resort of Gardone (Kurverein) decided to expand the Villa to the lake next to the Kurpark, transforming it into the Kur-Casino or Kurhaus.
The official opening took place on October 16, 1909, on the shores of Lake Garda in the province of Brescia.
The casino hosted concerts, balls, theatrical performances, afternoon and evening concerts, balls, conferences and very exclusive parties.
The Palazzo del Casino had its final layout in 1911 with the addition of three new rooms. In the same year of 1911 the Cercle Privé des Etrangers was opened, in which roulette and other gambling games were played.
The Kur-Casino was important to transform this therapeutic resort into a worldly tourist center which reached its maximum splendor in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Casino remained operational until 1912, when the gambling became illegal and was banned.
During the Great War the casino was closed and became a recreational center, exceptionally opening the gaming rooms only for the officers of the German troops,
The casino returned to activity in 1919, for five years, until 1924 , with the closing being imposed by the fascist government, to tighten up on gambling, it was closed like others casinos at the time in favor of Venezia.
Benito Mussolini made the decision to close all casinos in Italy, except for Venice, Sanremo, St. Vincent and Campione d'Italia.
After the end of WWII, the Casino Gardone Riviera reopened, on October 27, 1945, under a prefectural provision duly validated by the allied military administration, and worked until July 1946, when it was closed forever.
Nowadays, in place of the Casino Gardone Riviera there is a restaurant, the Casino Restaurant.
