Post WWII Torinese casinos

In the spring of 1946, ended the war, some small towns municipal administrations, around and closest to Torino (Turin), saw in the opening of casinos a good opportunity to start the reconstruction of the country after the terrible years of the war.
Besides the revenues for the municipalties , the aim was also to absorb a large number of unemployed people, to relaunch the tourism and to start a new life , having fun again and forget those dark days.

There was a strong opposition from local associations, who claimed that the casino was is in clear antithesis with the moral principles, , claiming the grave near and remote consequences of that corrupting casino, deploring that questionable economic reasons have prevailed over all moral and spiritual values,, considering at the moment there were a lot of more serious and urgent problems to solve, etc.
Despite the protests, however, the Casino was opened .
The entrance was forbidden to the inhabitants of Torre Pellice and free for the others. There was a bus service available to the most avid gamblers to take them back to Turin at dawn.
