Hey, even I got pulled over before reaching the

State Line. It was 1974 and I was driving a Ford Econoline van across the country, sleeping in the rear at nights. And I managed to get arrested three times in Florida for (1) not sleeping in a motel, (2) sleeping on "private property" and (3) trying to get out of Florida without stopping at the Weigh Station near Yulee, Florida. I told the Highway Patrolman that my van was not a Commercial Vehicle under California law, but he was unimpressed and said ALL trucks (pickups, vans, gigantic 18-wheelers) had to stop to be weighed. Only state in the Union where they enforce such a law. He let me go, however, without a ticket. Probably spotted the Hay Pickup chugging along behind me.

The other two offenses - not really brought in to a police station, just given a big warning no to do it again. I always thought the law was, if you are driving and too tired to go on, you should pull over to the side of the road (in some safe area) and take a nap. No napping in the Sunshine State! All tired people must get to John Benedict's Orchid Barn!
