He was going downhill!

That uphill part was, to use a Trump phrase, "fake news." You can't get to the golf course by going uphill (back towards Terranea). *

I don't know either about the "mechanics" of the crash, but I know that a girl driving a GMC Sierra pickup at (supposedly) 15 mph, swerved to miss a deer crossing the roadway, flew over a small oak tree, then crashed down onto a dirt trail, rolled over (leaving window-glass debris), moved at least 15 feet laterally and then flew through a barbed-wire fence, and thence spun downhill at least 45 feet before the truck wrapped around a much larger oak. Happened on my hillside property in San Benito County. And she busted out the side window to walk away from the wreck. The CHP officers I called to the scene about a week later when I discovered the mess were only marginally interested in the details, although they helpfully called a "rescue" truck to drag the Sierra off my mountain. So with moving vehicles, just about anything can happen. And the deer will laugh!

* Hawthorne Blvd., from north to south, travels UP the steep hill, crosses the ridge, and then does an elegant slope DOWN to Palos Verdes Drive at the top of the cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Miss that traffic light and you will be experiencing that classic California sport of "car surfing." So maybe Tiger almost hit Mr. TV Guy on their way UP from Palos Verdes Drive before cresting the mountain?
