~~~ with the core slug being both waffle and circles; center... where the concave depression could be seen using a straight edge (for cutting and stacking purposes) though, I have not noticed it often on both types of their 'plain' mold and I've never studied the Burt mold and never cared to dissect one, either. The Phoenix examples I refer to were all with one inlay. Sold the first one here and someone else bought the balance.

I think someone else had mentioned both patterns noticed on some C&S chips from.USPS... and not exactly sure of the whole construction process, intervals, back then, especially with all the off center inlays known and how it happened with whatever their process was at the time.

Getting back to your photo; I wonder what all (if anything) USPC buried on the property.

I would have been there with a shovel... grin
