I think if you explain your concern with the potential buyer their response wold most likely give you an idea of their intentions/motivations. It’s certainly no guarantee.

Let’s assume someone pays you with “0” feedback. Another thing you can do is BEFORE YOU SHIP ANYTHING, hit the “print shipping label” on eBay. That will provide the buyer’s name and address. Is it a PO Box? Possible red flag. Then do an internet search on the address provided. Does it look like a residence? Does the name of the buyer match the name of the owner? (Could be a rental, so that should not be a deal breaker.) If you are not comfortable, just cancel the transaction and refund the $.

That is about all I know what you can do. The rest would be up to eBay’s seller protection, which is much less than their buyer protection.
