Not quite: Here's the FULL story--I once delivered

his telephone book! In 1977-78 I had a van and worked on a day-to-day basis delivering phone books in the Los Angeles area. There were quite a lot of regional directories published then - and two telephone companies (Pacific Bell and General Telephone), so the work was pretty consistent. We would meet in a large warehouse - often the old theatre near Farmer's Market - where they would offer "routes" in whatever parts of the county where books were to be delivered on a house-by-house basis. We could pull two routes a day. As I recall, the job paid around $40 a day for those, good enough wages back then.

Anyway - came the time that L.A. phone books were being distributed in the Hollywood Hills. Walking in the hills was not my favorite route but that was all that was available. We had a list of addresses and subscribers' names. I'm going up Doheny Drive, north of Sunset Boulevard, and the next address was "Phil Spector Productions." Came to a locked gate, rang the bell, some lady (housekeeper?) answered and instructed me to leave the book beside the gate and leave at once.

And that's how I ALMOST met Phil Spector and he got all the Publishers' phone numbers so he could play with his gun while talking with them, and NOW you have the whole story!
