Close, but not quite correct. Shelby and Claudine were the only owners of the property till she sold to Harrahs. She built the Holiday Queen but was concerned that Holiday Inn's would object to the name and sue her. Midstream she decided to change the name, matches, ashtrays, keno tickets were ordered with the River Queen name and logo. NO CHIPS. If you see chips with that name they are not from there or they are fakes. When Shelby got sick she decided to contact Kemmons Wilson, Holiday Inn Owner. He had no problem with her using the Holiday Queen name. After the initial conversation, they became friendly and he talked her into buying the franchise for the hotel. She was very successful. At the time the three most profitable casinos in Las Vegas were Caesars Palace, The Horseshoe, and Holiday Casino. The Queen name was dropped but the Holiday Queen chips were used for over one year. I have a picture of her burying the chips in the foundation of the new "boat". That is why they are expensive. I also have most of her casino stuff which includes her AGA Hall Of Fame Oblisque, and most of the items that hung in her office. She was and still is the most successful female operator in the casino business.
