Sheldon Smith, Memorial SNCCC After-Meeting Report

The Sheldon Smith, Memorial SNCCC After-Meeting Report for October 2020.

The Monthly Meeting of the SNCCC took place this past Tuesday, 13 October, at and with the courtesy of the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV. Both State and Boyd Gaming COVID safety restrictions were in full force as members and guest gathered at 6 pm.

At 6:45 pm, the monthly Auction began, which offered and sold 22 Lots of casino gaming chips. Following the auction, we were treated to an open discussion with Paul Schaffer and Gregg Fisher, the current Guinness World's Record holder of the largest casino chip/token collection and challenger, respectively. Paul's record of 802 chips, was established at the 2019 Casino Collectibles Association's Annual Convention, as an Educational Exhibit. Gregg had planned to beat Paul's record during the 2020 CCA Convention, again as an Educational Exhibit, but we all know what happened, yep... COVID.

Working with Mikko Melander of Spinettis Gaming Supplies, Gregg's attempt to break Paul's record was presented over a 3-day period early in October. Gregg's attempt, with a count of 818 chips/tokens, is under consideration of qualifying as the new Record, by the Guinness World's Records people and barring any unforeseen obstacles, he should be awarded the honor over the next several weeks. Paul plans to break Gregg's Record in 2021, at the currently scheduled CCA Convention in June.

Following the presentation/discussion by Gregg and Paul, SNCCC President Jerry Vergatos called the Meeting to Order, at 7:50 pm, with 27 members and guests in attendance. The Secretary (Jim Follis) presented the Minutes of the September Meeting, followed by the Treasurer's Report (Terri Lonski) and then the Membership Report (Pam Focazio). Our current paid membership is 165.

Old Business was reviewed. Officer At-Large, James Hogg, advised that he had not received and non-Officer comments regarding his proposed Kid's Program, and will release a 2nd Issue. (Depending on distribution of this Report the 2nd Issue may be included.) While the Route 66 Road Trip was COVID canceled, commemorative chips had been ordered and received, and were offered For Sale.

New Business was presented, wherein October was the kick-off period for annual SNCCC Officer Nominations, followed by the November election, the December declaration of winners and the January Officer Installations. (Depending on distribution of this Report the SNCCC Nomination Form may be included.) SNCCC Elections are Chaired by Bruce and Mary Ann Massey.

Jim Follis presented the latest MoGH Project, a “Call for Moulin Rouge Collectibles”.

The Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm and was followed by the monthly, membership donated items, Raffle and 50/50 drawing. The November Meeting is set for the 2nd Tuesday (as are all monthly meetings) at the Gold Coast on the 13th.
