In Response To: “Riverboat” ivory chip ()

When I sold my Texas Belle (no such "Riverboat"), the buyer paid me $1,300.

I acquired it via a phone call in response to a newspaper want add I ran.

(This is all archived here).
The gentleman told me that he had an ivory chip that he wanted to sell... And that both he and his friend had returned home after World War II (1947), and were on the waterfront in NOLA, where a street vendor was selling several different types of Ivory poker chips with riverboat names and famous locations and people's names and all that good stuff. He explained that the chips were mounted on a key ring and they were very inexpensive. I don't remember exactly how much he told me he paid, but it was very cheap... where both he and his friend were able to buy one each.

I told both Dale and Kenny the story, and Philip F. (whom I sold a few rarest of the rare ivories to) knew about these vendors in New Orleans, and he told me at the time but I never took any notes... and, even though there are "recent creations" about... I feel they are very desirable and well worth the big bucks.

I wish I had something to trade for that killer chip of yours, but all I have left is the one Shield on Starzls and the Tiger in the Grass.

Good luck with that beauty...!!!
