Shoreacres Country Club (Mexico) C&S - LAST CHANCE

I have two sets left of these. After this weekend the ChipBoard Charity deal is over.

Here is the post from last weekend...

I’ve been sitting on these for a while now, wondering what to do with them. It seems to me that in this crazy year when nothing seems to be going right, maybe its time to give a little back.

I’m selling the above sets of four chips from the Shoreacres Country Club in Baja California, Mexico, for a ChipBoard special of $80/set (I pay postage in US). That is $20/chip, a real bargain for crest & seals with a pedigree. I have a limited number of these available, so please email me for availability (edhertel@hotmail.com) and payment instructions. I’d like to keep the transactions off of eBay to save some fees, but if I have any left, I will post them there for a much higher price.

And if you are on the fence, maybe this will help. All the proceeds -- 100% -- will go to Lori Spragg’s charity Build on Books (www.buildonbooks.com) which helps bring education to the struggling people of Sierra Leone. Can you believe it, there is actually a GOOD NATURED Spragg out there! Yea, I was surprised too!

Shoreacres Country Club – Quick Facts

The chips were ordered in 1929, the same year that the fancy Shoreacres Country Club opened. Located over the Mexico border, this “Deauville of the Pacific” was a luxurious country club that offered a beautiful oceanside golf course, gourmet cuisine and a large casino.

Just as in the US, casinos were “mostly” illegal in Mexico. There were a couple concessions made to some clubs, but the Shoreacres was not one of them. In late 1935, Mexico started targeting illegal gambling, shutting down many including the Shoreacres Country Club. Below is an article describing the ensuing fight that was about to go down.

So once again. Buy a set of 90 year old Mexican illegal chips for a ChipBoard and Charity special of $80/set. If you really just want one chip, I have some extra yellow ones I will sell for $25.

And if you are not interested in the chips, but still want to donate to Lori’s charity, I’m certain they will be very grateful!
