Re: I Hate to Mention It, But ...

Charlie, I worked in lower Manhattan that day. Only two ferries left lower Manhattan that day. I was on one. I remember we were jammed in like sardines. I sure we well we’ll over the fire codes. All onboard looked the same: grey faces, grey clothing and a lot of coughing.

By the way, the skylobby was on the 78th floor. I remember that because when the trade center opened in 1973, the PA could not find renters for 2 WTC. I believe NYS rented the whole building. At the time, the NYS Insurance Dept occupied floors 80 - 82. I was on 80. We had a 10 year lease. After 10 years, private businesses wanted rental spaces. So, of course, they threw us out.

On 9/11 I was some 5 blocks southeast of the WTC. I was 2 blocks away looking up at 2 WTC as it burned. Minutes later all hell broke loose.

I lived in Brick, NJ some 65 miles South. There I was, dropped off in Staten Island, filthy with no way to get home. Three different cars picked me up and took me all the way home.
