Re: Chipguide Obsession....Part II...

I can’t speak for others, but when I started buying and trading chips (as opposed to keeping one from a casino visit), I didn’t really care if a chip was legit or not. If they looked interesting and we’re cheap, I made a place for it in my collection, to view it more as art than investment. Now that I’m seeking only the rarest of Nevada chips, I’m way more concerned about their authenticity and I rely on the guide for basic identification and the good word of my fellow collectors (you rascals, you) to not get ripped off. So far, I’m happy with the pchips I’ve received and when there have been issues (only twice), they were addressed quickly and satisfactorily. I never collected coins or stamps that were slabbed/graded, but I’ve seen them, of course, and I could see there being a market for something like that. However, if you’ve seen how I display a large portion of my collection (air tights under a vinyl desk mat), slabbed chips wouldn’t work. And if I bust the chips out, I’d have to get it regraded to sell it again (assuming buyers would expect the grade). So, as the sharks would say... for that reason, I’m out.

So, you have 3 options... 1) start your own club, 2) start a grading service and offer it at a low enough cost that you get buy-in from a number of large buyers/sellers and simply create the market, downplaying the value of non-slabbed chips, 3) Run for a board position in the CCA or support the election of people who think as you do, 4) Get some weapons and money and stage a coup. You can raise money by selling your collection to me, but I expect a heavy discount for coming up with all of these cool ideas for you. rofl
