Poor Pete’s in Reno Story

I recently sold a chip from Poor Pete’s Casino ion eBay. The casino was very small and operated a single BJ table. It only operated from 1963-1964 and would eventually become Gem Casino in 1987

Anyways, the buyer passed on the following
Thanks for mailing this so quickly. I've been best friends with Pete Jr. for almost sixty years and this is a surprise gift as all of his memorabilia was destroyed in a fire years ago. As an aside, the reason the casino was only open for a short period of time was because not too long after opening Pete Sr. died from a heart attack on Christmas morning in 1963 at the family cabin in South Lake Tahoe. After Poor Pete's closed the building was the site of the Reno Turf Club for the next 15-20 years.

As another aside when Pete Sr. first applied for a gaming license it was denied. Pete filed an appeal and the Nevada Gaming Commission granted him a license. That was the first time that ever happened in Nevada and I remember when we were younger Butch ( Pete Jr. ) was always proud of that because it was kind of David vs. Goliath thing for us kids.
