Hey Phil I learn to fly a small piper cub on a grass runway in Smithville New Jersey outside of Atlantic City it was a little bumpy but actually the landings made it softer the one in Tahoe resembles the airports in Alaska crude but very doable and you rather hit the grass than the asphalt if something went wrong
