CHS believed to be Charles H. Sullivan -

he was the first Afro-American in California to be granted a cardroom license. Ran the Second Avenue Card Room (2nd Avenue? 2 Ave?) in San Mateo and perhaps other ventures. Made enough money at it to buy a concert hall in San Francisco. Perhaps you've heard of it? Fillmore West. Sold to Bill Graham, Sullivan continued to promote concerts around the state. He was found shot to death in the gutter on a dark night in a seedy section of San Francisco after returning from a concert in Southern California with pockets full of money. Nobody ever solved the murder, the Coroner conveniently wrote it off as a suicide. "Black Lives Don't Matter" I guess.
