2755 Las Vegas Blvd. South...

... was the address of the legendary Thunderbird Hotel & Casino
which opened in 1948 on the famous Las Vegas Strip. Many people
had public and not-so-public financial interests in the Thunderbird
over the years, including then Nevada Lt. Gov. Clifford Jones
(the Big Juice) and Meyer Lansky's brother Jake.

The property was briefly operated as the Sahara-Thunderbird
from 1964 to 1966.

2755 reverted to the Thunderbird from 1967 to 1976.

The Thunderbird was re-branded the Silver Bird from 1976 to 1982.

The Silver Bird was sold in 1982 and renamed the El Rancho, finally
closing down in 1992.

The building remained vacant for several years and was eventually
demolished in 2000 after having been declared a menace to health &
safety. 2755 next popped up as part of the redevelopment of the
north Strip in the 2000's. Developers announced the Fontainebleau
in 2005, with construction beginning about a year and a half later.
The great recession put a stranglehold on financing, and construction
was halted due to bankruptcy in 2009.

Investor/developer Steve Witkoff bought the property in 2017 and
announced plans to open "The Drew Las Vegas" in 2022.
