I see where you are coming from, but I think Paulson had moved a lot of their chip production to Mexico long before they sold themselves to GPI in 2002.

From what I read in this company history, they had a factory making chip components as early as 1982, and it may have been the key to their success, as they were able to produce chips (and later dice, and layouts) at a price that Burt and TRK could not compete with. There are some errors in that company history, however, so everything in it is not correct.
