Thanks for a great post...

The 3rd scan shows the phone listings for the little town of Greenville, CA. I grew up in that town - though I did not arrive there until 1947. I downloaded the image and cropped out the Greenville listing and then posted it on the Facebook group "Growing up in Greenville". I did say it came from the Chip Board. It was a big hit with the older crowd - lots of tales of the problems with the "party Lines". I left Greenville in 1959 and the population at the time was about 1,500 but I'm sure there were a lot more phones installed. We never had one in our house so I didn't learn to use telephone until I was in the Army. Many of the other many of the places listed for California are even smaller - like Dixie Canyon with only three houses.
