The Cotton Club was a popular New York City nightclub located at 142nd Street
and Lenox Avenue in Harlem during the 1920’s & 30’s.

Many legendary black entertainers performed there, including: Duke Ellington,
Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Lena Horne, Cab Calloway, and Fats Waller.

Francis Ford Coppola’s 1984 film “The Cotton Club” was a fictional crime drama
based on the club and starring Richard Gere, Gregory Hines and Diane Lane.

There was a Cotton Club in Las Vegas at 500 Jackson Street on the city’s west side
from 1944 to 1957. Wikipedia says the original club was destroyed by an explosion
and fire in May 1948, but subsequently rebuilt.

The club was later known as “Love & Lee’s Cocktail Lounge” from 1970 to 1985.

Several other Cotton Clubs were located around the country during the 30’s, 40’s,
50’s, and 60’s – notably in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland. The chips shown
below are generics – not affiliated with any of the above mentioned Cotton Clubs
as far as I know.
