Billy Bob's - The World's Largest Honky Tonk! grin

“Billy Bob’s Texas” is a country & western themed nightclub located at 2520 Rodeo Plaza in
the Stockyards section of Fort Worth, Texas. Founded in 1981 by former Texas A&M football
player Billy Bob Barnett, “Billy Bob’s Texas” bills itself as the “World’s Largest Honky Tonk”
with more than 100,000 square feet of floor space.

According to Wikipedia, the original Billy Bob’s closed in January 1988 and re-opened a few
months later under new management. The club has been featured in several movies over the
years, including Over The Top with Sylvester Stallone (1987), Baja Oklahoma with Willie Nelson
& Susan Sarandon (1988), and Necessary Roughness with Scott Bakula (1991).

Billy Bob’s became famous for hosting country music acts like Willie Nelson, Asleep At The Wheel,
Lynn Anderson, Johnny Lee, the Charlie Daniels Band, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe, the Gatlin
Brothers, John Conlee, T.G. Sheppard, No Justice, Michael Martin Murphey, and tons more… in fact,
the Bellamy Brothers (“Let Your Love Flow”) are playing at Billy Bob’s this Friday night and you
can still get tickets!

At some point 25 or 30 years ago, Billy Bob’s had a gaming area in the club that featured table
games like blackjack and poker. The ChipGuide says the games were only offered on charity
“casino fun nights” -- and presumably that’s where these chips were in play:

I called the club yesterday and spoke with a very nice woman who has worked at Billy Bob’s for
the past 20+ years. She said the chips were used before her time and she could not pin down the
exact years… she confirmed that there was an occasional gaming night, but did not know exactly
which games had been offered… nor could she say how many different color chips there were back
in the day. She also said that people ask about the chips from time to time, that they’re scarce
and easy to sell. Seems like Billy Bob's ought to commission a new line of poker chips and make
them a gift shop item.

If anyone has a “Billy Bob’s Texas” chip in a color different from the six shown above, I’m an interested buyer! grin
