I have a sneaky way to avoid that problem and have only had one package returned in the last few years. I simply weigh the package at home, put on the correct postage (either letter rate or large envelope) and then stick it in the mail box. If it is stiff I add the $.15 for non-machinable and put that in red on the envelope. That way you don't have to argue with the cage critters grin

IT WORKS!! I mail out many of my packages ...
I cleared this with USPS 33411.. A done deal.
