Re: circus circus sold!
In Response To: circus circus sold! ()

This is an interesting development! The new owner will need to decide whether to implode it and start new (since the north-Strip is finally seeing some activity) or to do a facelift (with or without name change) and milk cash for a while.

It seems that a public company, like Boyd Gaming, would need to announce the purchase by now. It could be a private entity like Landry's (the Tilman Fertitta / Golden Nugget company) or Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin. Did Steve Wynn surrender his gaming license? If so, it would be difficult to get a new license, IMO ... but anything's possible.

Circus Circus has had staying power over the years -- now 51 years old! I did a quick count of Las Vegas area properties that are older than Circus Circus (opened in 1968). There are only 11-12 of them still open, if my count is correct:

Caesars Palace - 1966
El Cortez - 1941
Flamingo - 1946 or 2000, depending on MOGH dates
Four Queens - 1964
Fremont - 1956
Golden Gate - 1956
Golden Nugget - 1946
Tropicana - 1957

Jerry's Nugget - NLV - 1964
Railroad Pass-Henderson - 1931
Eldorado - Henderson - 1962
Rainbow Club - Henderson - 1967
