From Queenie, my local post office clerk: first ounce of first class, up from 47¢ to 49¢. Costs for all other classes of mail will also rise. Flat-ate Priority which is now $6.50 or $6.95 depending on zone, will go to $7-and-change. Small packets (my favorite 000 padded envelopes for chips) which are now $2.62 will also go up, not sure by how much.

The impact can be lessened a little as "Forever" stamps will remain valid. For those so inclined, stock up 47¢ Forevers now and save 2¢ on each letter after January 22.
