The Chip Board Archive 25

A little more info...

This is one chip I've had for awhile and just haven't put enough together for a full IOTD. It's coming, but slowly. Ironically, one of the hardest cities to research for me is my home town of Houston because none of the major newspapers are digitized nor indexed - meaning you have to know exact dates and roll through microfiche. Major time and pain.

I'll get a proper write-up on this one soon, but in the meantime, here is the Reader's Digest version...

The Armistice Club was a pool hall and gambling club in downtown Houston chartered in 1925. It was busted in 1927 and again in 1935 for gambling. Herman Williams on the chip order ran the games during the 1935 raid where the cops found blackjack and craps being played. Williams, a local gambler and a bit of a hot head, found himself in trouble in 1938 when he shot a guy while trying to collect a gambling debt. His trail cools off after that, but his associates moved on to bigger and better things.

Stay tuned...
