A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

TORTOISE ROCK CASINO TWENTY-NINE PALMS, CA

By Steve Gobel

This place is not where you'd run into it by accident. My guess is that it is 95% locals playing there. Late in the afternoon there were 2 poker tables going strong with nothing but stacks and stacks of green chips. Every player must have had several hundred in the game.
Not bad for a casino in the middle of nowhere on a Thursday afternoon. Joining the slot club got me a Spotlight 29 casino card (same Ownership). A $10 table games match play coupon, and $10 in free slot play. I hit the Pai Gow table and won the first hand. $20 up and I ran. One of the payout chips was a GO chip, and not in bad shape for 2 years old. Played a Video Poker machine for my free play and cashed out $7.50. Then hit a penny slot for the TITO and quickly ground down $1 to 1c. All in All a nice little joint to stop in if you're in the neighborhood.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

HARRAH’S TUNICA, MS (2008)

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

WHEN WE LIVED IN TENNESSEE, OVER THE YEARS WE AVERAGED ONE TRIP TO TUNICA ABOUT EVERY SIX MONTHS. ONE OF THESE TRIPS WAS PLANNED AROUND THE CHANGE OF THE GRAND CASINO BACK AGAIN TO HARRAH’S.
WHILE MAKING THE ROUNDS FOR THE FOLLOWING CHIP DENOMINATIONS: $1’s, $2.50’s & $5’s I DISCOVERED THE LADY BUG CHIP http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=MSTUH3 (CG LINK) HOWEVER, I WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND BUT ABOUT 6 OF THEM. THEY WERE QUITE POPULAR AND I PLANNED ANOTHER TRIP OVER TO TUNICA SEVERAL MONTHS LATER.
THE SECOND TRIP TO HARRAH’S WAS NOT QUITE AS FRUITFUL AS FIRST AS A MATTER OF FACT IT WAS ALMOST A TOTAL BUST. IF NOT FOR THE NORMAL HARVESTING AND THE GRAND OPENING OF “THE ROADHOUSE CASINO” (FORMERLY THE SHERATON) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN. I SAT IN THE HARRAH’S POKER ROOM FOR 4 HOURS OR MORE WHILE THE OFF DUTY DEALERS AND THE CASHIER OF THE POKER ROOM WENT THROUGH ABOUT 30 RACKS OF CHIPS LOOKING FOR THE “LADY BUG”. I DID FIND 2 MORE OF THE LADY BUGS IN THE BLACK JACK PITS.
ON THE WAY HOME WE THOUGHT WE WOULD GO TO “GRACELAND”, NOT A GOOD IDEA; BECAUSE WE RAN INTO TORRENTIAL DOWNPOURS, AND HEADED HOME.
NOT A TOTAL BUST, BUT IT WAS A CASE OF I WISHED I HAD FOUND MORE THE 1ST TIME…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

CHIP COLLECTING BLUES

THINGS TO LOOK FOR, BUT HOPE YOU DO NOT FIND

Some of us, are very particular about what we put in our collections, some of us don’t mind minor defects, and some of us will collect most any chip and plan on upgrading. These are some of the defects while looking at possible trades or buys for your collections that you should look out for.
• HAIR LINE CRACKS
• DEALER NICKS SOME ARE VERY TINY
• CASINO COUNTING MARKS AND SCRATCHES
• EXCESSIVE COLOR BLEEDING ON FACE OF CHIPS
• EXCESSIVELY DIRTY CHIPS
• WORN AND WELL USED CHIPS
• PAPER LABELED CHIPS, WITH LABLES COMING OFF
• OFF SIDE INLAYS
• CANCELLED CHIPS
• HEAT STAMP CONDITION
Hope this list helps you out a little…Reggie

MY COLLECTION LIBRARY WEB SITE

HOME OF 4500 TRADERS

Starting 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.

This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
Thanks for taking your time to read over this post, Reggie
*Please read thoroughly
