A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

LARRY FLYNT’s LUCKY LADY GARDENA, CA

By: J. Eric Freedner

My story about the new Lucky Lady. I had been following the ups and downs of the Normandie Casino online - open, now closed, but actually still open . . . until news of Larry Flynt's purchase of the casino hit the news. But as you know, a big ruckus erupted between Larry and the City of Gardena which wanted a guarantee of $800,000 tax revenue per month in return for certain "favorable allowances." Mr. Flynt refused to cave in and kept the casino closed . . . for a few days. I recognized this as the classic poker-bluff.

Sure enough, the City caved in, and in a news release on July 19, it was announced that the Lucky Lady might open as soon as Friday, July 20. I read this on July 20 . . . and decided to drive down to Gardena to see for myself, with no great expectation that the casino would indeed be open.

But, surprise! The new Lucky Lady was open, in fact its grand opening, marked only by a workman hurriedly applying a new Lucky Lady decal to the front doors. It must have been hurriedly arranged - no balloons, flowers or that sort of thing. Just some dedicated gamblers playin' away . . . with new chips! Which, when I bought some at the Cage, turned out to have the naked lady on the inlay. Shocking, but fun! I had all of $65 with me at the time, and this went fast for 50¢, $1, and $5 chips. Walked around the tables and asked a dealer what those green chips were - $2 drop chips, she replied. Welllll . . . back to the cage for some of those, which the cashier graciously sold. But then - I spied some red chips in a rack and was told they were $3 drop chips - not currently on the tables. But, I asked the cashier, could I buy some as a collector? She shrugged and said it was all right with her. Next problem: no more cash!

Drove frantically around Gardena looking for a compatible ATM and sure enough, a block from the Hustler, the right bank appeared. So, with a newly-acquired $100 bankroll in my pocket, I raced back to the Lucky Lady and bought more chips, including those $3 ones.

Best chuckle of the night: seeing a patron approach the doors of the Lucky Lady, stop, and stare at the new decals. He did a double-take, as if he was on "Candid Camera." But the doors had a familiar look to them, so in he went. I can only imagine his surprise when he got a handful of naked lady chips for his game!

Anyway, that's one of the few casino grand openings that I ever attended, and pretty much all by accident.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

DOC AND EDDY’S CARDROOM BILLINGS, MT

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

DOC AND EDDY’S CARDROOM IS A CLASSIC LIVE ACTION CARDROOM WITH LOT OF COWBOYS AND HARD DRINKING PLAYERS. I HAVE BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIMES AND HARVESTING THERE IS VERY TRICKY. BELIEVE IT OR NOT THE CHIPS ARE COUNTED WHEN THEY CLOSE UP AT NIGHT AND COUNTED (OBSERVED AND LOGGED) WHEN THEY START THE NEXT DAY.
I USUALLY PLAY A LITTLE HOLDEM OR OMAHA WHILE THERE AND THEN I TALK TO THE “GENERAL” AND SEE WHAT ELSE HE MIGHT FIND IN THAT CUPBOARD SUCH AS “OBSOLETES”. OVER THE YEARS AND VISITS TO THIS CARDROOM I HAVE HAD SOME PLEASANT SUPRISES. I HAVE EVEN BEEN GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY OF BUYING A COUPLE OF RACKS OF 25c CHIPS VIA EMAIL.
HOWEVER, THE ACTUAL HARVESTING IS NOT QUITE AS EASY. IT HAS TO BE ON THE Q-T. IN OTHER WORDS, I HAVE TO DO A LITTLE PALMING AND SLEIGHT OF HAND. AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO COME OUT OF THAT CARD ROOM WITH A WHOLE LOT OF LIVE CHIPS AND NEVER WITH AS MANY AS I WOULD OF LIKED TO HAD. …REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

24 HOUR RULE

If at all possible the 24 hour rule should be applicable to the following scenarios:
• ORDERING A CHIP THAT HAS LIMITED AVAILABILITY AND IS POSTED AS SUCH.
Try to remember to make a final confirmation and or arrangements for payment and shipment. (24 Hours)
• ORDERING ANYTHING AND NOT COMMUNICATING TO THE SELLER YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO PAY FOR IT RIGHT AWAY.
When you have a responsible seller that informs you that your item is available and what the price & shipping is, and you do not get back to seller (In 24 Hours) to inform them you will be sending payment (today, tomorrow or next week) you really are not worthy of any special considerations in the future. Please do not request a trade, or purchase and then not be available, by phone or email for the 24 hours or more. There may be extenuating conditions attached to the items ordered. If the seller/trader cannot get ahold of you do not be surprised if he doesn’t have it available after your finally get back in touch with him.
• MAKE A REQUEST FOR INFORMATION OR AN ITEM SEARCH OF AVAILABILITY, AND WHEN INFORMATION IS SENT OR QUESTIONS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED:
Always try to respond to this answer of information; that has been imparted by the person that it was requested from; within a short time (24 Hours)
• REQUEST A STATEMENT OF ACCOUNT (If you are using some one’s hold service or new chip service)
And then not pay them in a timely manner, is not a good practice. If you are experiencing buyer’s remorse, get back to the seller ASAP, they may not hold you to your purchase, the sooner the better. Also, life tends to get in the way of a chipper’s good intentions, but let them know you have (financial or time problems and have to re-schedule (payments-or the request made) (24 Hours)
• WHEN BUYING, TRADING OR SELLING ALWAYS BE AN EQUAL PARTNER IN THE TRANSACTION. KEEP YOUR ASSOCIATES IN THE LOOP IF YOU CANNOT PERFORM YOUR PART OF THE BARGAIN RIGHT AWAY TELL THEM WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO.
Everybody has a life, and sometimes it gets in the way of Chippin’. So tell your Chippin’ partners that you may not be able to get back to them right away with the information or order processing or, whatever. (24 Hours)
• THE FINAL COMMENT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IS THE DEFINITION OF THE WORD “COURTESY”, THE DICTIONARY DEFINES IT AS POLITENESS. BUT IT GOES EVEN FARTHER THAN THAT, LITTLE THINGS LIKE BEING STRAIGHT FORWARD ABOUT YOUR REQUESTS, BEING HONEST, AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOU ACTIONS.
The best thing about our group (The CC-GTCC) is the above statement, because most of us do practice and use these rules. (24 Hours A Day)
Reggie

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie

MY COLLECTION LIBRARY WEB SITE

HOME OF 4500 TRADERS

Starting 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.
Follow This Collection Library Link To Approximately +/- 4500 Trader Chips >>>: http://www.collectionlibrary.com/Index.asp?EvApp=mls.5117&sPageName=MyTraders
This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
Thanks for taking your time to read over this post, Reggie
