A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

WE-WONT-NAME INDIAN CASINO SAN DIEGO AREA

J Eric Freedner

Hey "Cousin Reggie,"

In all the years I've harvested chips, I've never played a card game in a casino! That changed tonight, and here's the story:

An Indian casino in the San Diego area (we won't name) offered a couple of $5 No-Cash-Value chips so I went down there and got a voucher for them in the usual manner, at the player's club counter. But, when I went to the Pit Boss to redeem the voucher as I've done on past occasions, he took the voucher and said I must be seated at a table, playing, before he would give me the chips. Maybe he recognized me from past visits. Or was just a grouchy Pit Boss. Trapped. I sat at the only Blackjack game in his area. I then realized it had a $15 minimum, rather than a $5. Threw down a $20 and got four regular $5 chips. Pit Boss came over with the 2 NCV ones, dealer at first handed them to the player next to me, then realized his error and gave them to me. I put them in my pocket, and bet with 3 of the house chips. Dealer scowled and tossed me two cards. Two Kings. He tried to beat me, got only piddling cards and came up with 18. I heard him hiss, "Damn!" and he was obliged to pay me $15. Dealer asked why I didn't bet with the two NCV chips, I said I figured they were "lucky chips." I took my $35 in chips off the table, said "See ya," and left. Dealer was still muttering under his breath and the Pit Boss was shooting daggers at me with his eyes.
General Custer is looking down approvingly.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA IS A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR ANY CHIP COLLECTOR. IT CONJURS UP THE FEELING OF THE OLD WILD WEST THE MINUTE YOU ARRIVE. AND IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT FEELING THEN IT WILL BE PROVIDED FOR YOU, BY THE SHOOT OUTS ON MAIN STREET BY THE LOCAL THEATER PLAYERS. I HAVE BEEN THERE SEVERAL TIMES. MY HARVESTING EXPERIENCE THERE HAS NEVER BEEN THE SAME.
THREE THINGS COME TO MIND. THE FIRST IS WHEN I DISCOVERED HOW TO GET THE PEACOCK CLUB CHIPS. THAT WAS PROVIDED BY A LOCAL THAT OFFERED THE INFORMATION FROM BEHIND A BLACKJACK TABLE. HE SAID, SIMPLY JUST GO INTO MUSTANG SALLY’S AND ASK FOR THEM. I DID AND THE CASHIER PULLED OPEN THE BIG SAFE’S DOOR AND SAID HOW MANY DO YOU WANT? http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=SDDEPC
THE SECOND WAS A RAINY NIGHT AT THE SALOON NO. 8. THE ONLY POKER GAME GOING WAS “BUTTONS CHOICE” BETWEEN HOLDEM AND OMAHA. I THOUGHT I WOULD PICK UP A FEW HANDS, NOT MUCH LUCK FOR ME, THE LOCALS KNEW EACH OTHER AND I DIDN’T. LATER ON DURING THE NIGHT A WELL HEELED GENTLEMAN STUMBLED IN AND ANNOUNCED, I WILL GIVE $50 FOR A SEAT. SOMEBODY STOOD UP AND SAID YOU CAN HAVE MINE FOR $50. AND THEN ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE, HE PLAYED EVERY HAND BET EVERY ROUND AND ENDED UP WINNING ABOUT 3-4 HUNDRED DOLLARS, AT THAT POINT HE PUSHED ALL OF HIS CHIPS TO THE DEALER, WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO DIVIDE IT EVENLY WITH THE OTHER DEALER. I NEVER SEEN THAT BEFORE. http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=SDDESN
THE THIRD WAS THE MOST RECENT, AFTER WALKING FROM CADILLAC JACKS TO THE FRANKLIN HOTEL COLLECTING ONLY WHAT WAS NEEDED, I SETTLED INTO A TAME HOLDEM GAME AT THE GOLD DUST. WHILE TALKING TO THE DEALER ABOUT COLLECTING CHIPS I WAS INTRODUCED TO ONE OF THEIR MARKETING PEOPLE. I WAS INFORMED THEY WERE ABOUT INTRODUCE A NEW $2 CHIP IN A FEW WEEKS. I ALSO, WAS INFORMED THAT IF I LEFT MY NAME AND ADDRESS THAT THEY WOULD SEND ME ONE, COMPLIMENTARY. THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE, AND PROBABLY NEVER WILL AGAIN. THEY ACTUALLY SENT IT TO ME AND IS IN MY COLLECTION TODAY. http://www.themogh.org/cg_chip2.php?id=SDDEGD
LOVE THOSE SOUTH DAKOTA CHIPS…REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

SET OF THE DAY

MANY YEARS AGO I STARTED MY POSTING, BY POSTING “A SET OF THE DAY” I THINK I HAD ABOUT 300-400 SETS ALL TOGETHER. THAT WAS A LOT OF FUN BACK THEN. AND WHEN I STARTED DOING “A PAGE A DAY” I INCLUDED BETTER SETS AS A CATEGORY.
BUT NOW; RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie
