A GUEST AUTHOR’s HARVEST STORY

MOHAWK BINGO PALACE

BY GUEST AUTHOR: CARL SHALIT

I live in the Boston area and once or twice a year I have to go to Syracuse, NY, a 6 or so hour drive. Several years ago I decided to take a longer scenic ride by way of the Akwesasne casino in upstate NY since I had not been there since they opened in 1999.
Great timing, they had just released a hotel opening chip so I gather several.
Continuing on towards Syracuse, I saw a sign that said "POKER". Of course I stopped since I had no idea there was anything in the area except the Akwesasne. They did have live poker using "Mohawk Bingo Palace" chips. As I recall, they would only sell me one of each.
As I was walking out, a young fellow who heard me explain that I was a collector followed me and said he had some chips that he couldn't redeem since the house they were from closed. Naturally I bought them from him. These were from "Three Feathers Casino".
Bottom line is, from what I expected to be just a long scenic way to get to Syracuse, I gathered FIVE new chips. These are all on the Chipguide.
Reggie, feel free to use this.

PERSONAL HARVESTING STORIES

GLACIER PEAKS CASINO BROWNING, MT

By:RICHARD “REGGIE” GUMMER

GLACIER PEAKS CASINO NAME WAS DERIVED FROM THE NATIONAL PARK GLACIER NATIONAL PARK. IT IS LOCATED A FEW MILES OUT SIDE OF BROWNING, MT, WHICH IS A REAL INDIAN TOWN, MOSTLY INDIANS AND RANCHERS.
IT WAS WHILE WE WERE TRYING TO TAKE THE “GOING TO THE SUN HIGHWAY” THROUGH GLACIER PARK THAT WE HAD STOPPED TO MAKE A HARVEST AT GLACIER PEAKS. THIS WAS REALLY A TYPICAL INDIAN CASINO. WE GOT FREE T-SHIRTS, NANCY GOT A FREE BUNGI AND OF CORD AND WE BOTH GOT PLAYER CARDS. ANY WAY WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH OUR VISIT.
I PLAYED POKER FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS, MADE MORE THAN ENOUGH TO PAY FOR MY HARVEST. AND WHILE I WAS PLAYING I FOUND OUT BY ACCIDENT OF CONVERSATION AMONGST THE PLAYERS AT THE POKER TABLE; THAT YOU SHOULD NOT TRY TO WALK OUT OF THE CASINO WITH YOUR POCKETS FULL OF CHIPS. I HAD BEEN WEARING MY HEAVY DUTY CARGO PANTS THAT HAD FOUR FRONT POCKETS AND TWO BACK POCKETS, SO I CAREFULLY POCKETED “LITERALLY’ ONLY A FEW CHIPS LESS THAN 5 IN EACH OF MY MANY POCKETS; THIS MADE IT QUITE UN-NOTICABLE WHAT IF ANY THING WAS IN MY POCKETS. THIS IS WHERE I LEARNED THAT THE OLD SAYING “FOR WARNED IS FOR BEST”. WE LEFT THE CASINO AND HEADED EAST TOWARDS MY OLD HOME TOWN GILDFORD, MT FOR A MARATHON OF VISITING OF THE HOME TOWN FOLKS.
I DID GET ENOUGH CHIPS AT THIS CASINO. REGGIE

A PAIR TO DRAW TO

I am always trying to put things together that have some semblance of balance. Of course, that will always be in the eye of the beholder. Some of these may attract you the collector a little or a lot, no matter which way it attracts, please know I am always trying to help you out, with items you want at price that is fair. For now, I am going to do them every week, but as an unscheduled surprise feature…Thanks for looking. Reggie

If you have some ideas about compatible pairs please send them in to me. If it is possible and I happen to have the two, they will be put on the docket...reg

SHIPPING TIPS
These tips are for new collectors that want to start trading; and possibly a refresher for old timers that are just starting to liquidate their collections. I will try to be as descriptive as possible on these tips. Let’s start small a work up to larger shipments. Also, on the bottom the page some tips on the tips…I can use some additional help with these.
• For one to about five chips you can use the sticky corrugated paper; size it (for a small or large envelope) and press your chips into it. This works wonderfully well and protects the chips, I do not recommend this method for very old and brittle chips. (or HHR/HHL, A-Mold, Tri-Club and this type of chip)
• For one to about four chips, wrap them individually in paper and make squares. Tape to hold the paper closed. Then lay the four chips (squares) on a regular sized sheet, taping them so they cannot move; (doubling the paper helps) and fold it to fit the envelope uniformly and tape the end of the folded sheets of paper.
• For one to about 8 chips, a more conventional way to ship is a bubble mailer, size 000. Use 30 pocket vinyl pages cut down to configure to your bubble mailer, all bubble mailers are not “exactly the same”. Be sure that the chips are completely pushed into the slots and then run a piece of scotch magic transparent horizontally the length of the cut vinyl, to insure they stay in the slots. (make a pull tab for easy removal)
• For one to about 15 chips use a size “0” bubble mailer, with the same instructions as for the “000” above.
• 16-20 chips can be handled in several ways: 1) You can use a size “0” bubble mailer; cut a 30 pocket vinyl page in half and put a piece of small size bubble mailer or plastic film sponge wrap between the two halves. 2) A little more expensive but you can use USPS flat rate large envelopes, these will hold a full page. Either 20 or 30 pocket pages, wrapped in small bubble wrap or plastic film wrap. Be sure and cellophane tape the edges, corners , the seal and address/return address.
• 20-60 chips can be sent via USPS Flat Rate, as described in the second method just above. Also, if you wrap 15-25 chips with a single sheet of paper and tape the rolled chips securely so they will not break open. Place them in the smallest sized USPS box and put foam pellets, wadded paper, or rolled up bubble wrap/film, firmly in between the rolls, seal box and add cellophane tape around the edges and addresses.
• Larger orders up to 150 chips, can be shipped in the USPS small Flat Rate boxes, use plastic tubes, up to 21 in each tube. Use a tiny bit of packing material to be sure each tube’s chips are firm, then tape the lid of each tube closed. Each small USPS Flat Rate box, will hold 7 tubes, add a little packing material. You cannot beat this method price wise. *This can be done with the rolled paper method, and get a few more chips than 147.
• For larger than 150 chips use the tubes and a larger Flat Rate box, with basically the same instructions as above. Insurance is always up to you and the person you are shipping to.

TIPS FOR THE TIPS
1. When cutting up 30 pocket vinyl pages, first cut off the 3 hole binder edge, then cut to the following pocket sizes: 6, 8, 9, 10, 12 & 15 these popular sizes; and result in very little waste.
2. Cheapest mailers, large lots of 100 can be found on line (many sources), sticky corrugated paper @ ULine.com. Vinyl pages are on line @ Wizards.com…and other coin collecting supply companies.
3. Try to remember to put some sort of internal return address in each package.
4. Never, Never put any kind of tape or adhesive on any chip when shipping.
5. Try to save your bubble mailers (all sizes) for re-use.
6. Get familiar with USPS, UPS, Fed Ex and da kind and their mailing instructions on line.
7. Old bubble wrap envelopes can be cut up to re-use the bubble wrap for extra packing.
8. Starbucks and da kind hot cup wraps can be used to send single or small amount chips; staple or tape them inside the oval wrap, then tape to 1 or 2 sheets of paper folded to fit envelope to prevent moving around. Use small or #10 envelopes for a much cheaper postage rate.
9. Please, Please do not ship chips loose in manila envelopes. There are some current sellers on the CB that are still doing this; believe it or not…
10. Send me any tips and information that you think would be of interest to our new collectors.

SET OF THE DAY RETURNS

RATHER THAN HAVING MY BETTER SETS CATEGORY, I WILL START HAVING A REGULAR SET OF THE DAY WITH MY OTHER FEATURES WHEN I DISPLAY A “PAGE OF THE DAY”.
I AM REDUCING PRICES ON MOST OF THESE SETS, SOME WILL BE FACE VALUE, SO IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU LIKE AND WANT, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE IN SENDING ME AN EMAIL, PUTTING A SOLD SIGN ON THE CB IS NOT THE WAY TO GUARANTEE YOUR PURCHASE OR TRADE. SEE POD FOR P/H RATES. SEND ME AN EMAIL FOR ORDERS OR QUESTIONS…Reggie

MY COLLECTION LIBRARY WEB SITE

HOME OF 4500 TRADERS

Starting in January 2016, I have listed everything I have (all of my excel inventory +) on the collection library trader/for sale. Of course, many of you did not know that my previous listings were items I had more than one of. Now, everything; even the ones I only have 1 (one) of will be listed. Please know; none of these are from my personal collection. One more important point while searching for chips on my CL site; there are two settings for viewing my chips. One is a simply a long, long list of pictures and descriptions. Two is by Country/City/State/Casino alphabetical. You may request to change this at any time. And when you do I will leave it on that setting for a couple of days, or whatever you request within reason, before I change to help another chipper’s request.
Follow This Collection Library Link To Approximately +/- 4500 Trader Chips >>>: http://www.collectionlibrary.com/Index.asp?EvApp=mls.5117&sPageName=MyTraders
This will cause more work for me, and along with that will be the possibility of more errors, and chances for items to slip through the cracks. So, I apologize in advance for the times I do not clear off a listing after it has been sold. Also, on the other side of coin, there will be times I will find a very nice item that I had forgot to put on the “Collection Library” when I first got it. And now I am listing it just when you started looking for it.
*On the subject of trading, please know: When you spot something on my CL Trader/For Sale list that you really want, I need to get something that I can put into my collection, also; or it will be a cash sale. Because, to take in trade something I will in turn have to sell, (that is already in my collection) requires me to work twice as hard to complete the original transaction.
The total amount of chips listed on this site as traders and for sale are approximately 4500. This of course will fluctuate up and down, however this number should afford most collectors looking for a piece to put in their collection at least an opportunity to see a few chips not often offered.
Thanks for taking your time to read over this post, Reggie
