After 20 years of chip collecting...I think it is time to explore my options.
Hi everyone. My name is Terry Lazarus. Some of you may know me...many of you probably don't. I have been on and off the Chipboard for many years. I've been collecting chips for about 20 years and have a woefully outdated website called Chips Off the Old Block. I am approaching age 70 and facing a question that all of you will face some day: What do I do with my chips (and matchbooks and dice and publications)?
I have 3 children...none of whom has any interest in chipping.
My Nevada collection consists of approximately 7,000 chips and I have a dealer inventory of over 16,000 Nevada chips. What are they worth? Whatever a willing buyer and seller agree upon. I recognize the Chip Rack is an invaluable resource for all of us. I also recognize that, taken as a whole, it significantly overvalues many, many individual chips. It is, however, a place to start and provides a frame of reference for all of us.
According to the "low end" of the current edition of the Chip Rack, my collection has a value of about $225,000 and my inventory over $300,000. Are these realistic values?...of course not. I share them merely as the frame of reference I mentioned. The point is, even at a fraction of the previous values, there is significant value both in the collection and in the dealer inventory. I would love to sell the collection and the dealer inventory in its entirety...to either one or two people. I recognize that may not be possible. I would also consider dividing both collection and dealer inventory into 4 sub-collections: Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe and Small Towns.
If you have interest, please email me at pachipper@aol.com. Thanks for reading my post and Happy Easter to all.
