Purple Crackle Coat Check Additional info and.....

my opinion.

This is a follow-up to the post below concerning the Purple Crackle and other East Cape Girardeau gambling spots.

Shown in the scans below are pictures of various Purple Crackle items I have documented over the years of visiting the East Cape Girardeau, IL area.

The first scan contains copies of items from the Purple Crackle in the 1960s - including a "Coat Check", matches, etc. I obtain these pictures in 2002 from Bonnie Pearce widow of Bud Pearce who used to run the Crackle back in the 1960s. Note the address of McClure, IL - this was the town down the road from East Cape and this is where the Post Office was located. Many chip orders were delivered to McClure, IL over the years as there was not a Post Office in East Cape Note the old style phone #s.

The second scan shows Crackle items from the 1980s and 1990s when Bud Pearce's adopted son David ran the Crackle as a night club and Disco. I took the photo of the Crackle circa 2002 when David Pearce was still running the place.

The photo in scan 3 was taken in June of 2014 when I stopped thru East Cape Girardeau on my way to the Convention. David Pearce died and the Crackle is now the "Pony" a topless Go-Go joint.

My opinion on the plastic chip with 3034 ?? on it, is that this was some kind of promotional item used by David Pearce in the 1980s or 1990s when he ran the Disco bar and NOT an item used back in the 1950s and 1960s when the Crackle had gambling. I have no idea of exactly what these plastic "chips" were used for.

Take care,
Jerry
