A Chipboard Rant.....

Most posts related to selling on this board seem to be fair deals where the seller posts pictures with an asking price and shipping costs. In recent weeks there have been "sellers" posting scans of multiple chips with the caption "any interest" or "chips for sale" in the title but no prices listed. i have gone through the trouble of getting their address and typing up an e-mail listing the chips i would like to buy. The response to all of these "any interest" posts have been outrageously high (2-5 times ebay prices or 150-300% of book price). My favorite was a quote of $850 for a Gregory Street Colorado $1 chip. Now i realize this is a capitalist society and you are free to ask whatever you want but i feel this is a shady way to do business and is bad for the hobby. If i ask about a chip and pass due to the price does the seller ask a lower price from the next person or do they ask a higher price because multiple people are inquiring about the same chip? Who knows? Also, most collectors on this board are probably experienced chippers but for the newbies who might get taken advantage by this "selling" method, it is a good way to alienate them from the hobby. If you want to show off your collection, that's fine, just don't do it under the guise of selling. Just my two cents.
