Jeffrey a copperhead has a very distinct pattern aand this is not it. I think you are closer with the rattler since this is probaly a new born and hasn't shed yet. As far as eating rattle snake you are dead on they taste wonderful. Are you from Texas? If not come down for one of our big rattle snake round ups. usually several thousand are gathered up and displayed. Of course along with a great dinner.
