The Chip Board Archive 23

Here is the info I have in my records on these....

I have a 250 - they are nice plaques.

"The items are from the Palms Casino, which was located in the Palm Beach Hotel, Abu Nawas St, Baghdad, Iraq. Both sides of the plaque are shown: one side is in English; the reverse side in Arabic. They just give the denomination (5, 250, etc.); none say dinar or dollar. They are very large, heavy, top-quality Bourgogne et Gasset-style plaque, probably made by that firm. There are two lunettes, and at the bottom is the finely etched unique serial number.

The plaques were found with the same style "Palms Casino Baghdad" casino chips which were traced by Gene Trimble to their manufacturing records: the records show that the coin-in-center chips were made in 1985 (while Saddam was in power) by the Bud Jones Co., Las Vegas, Nevada, for John Huxley Co. (the well-known London gambling supply distributor) for the now-defunct Iraqi casino. Likely the plaques have the same dates. The chips and plaques were found by an American during his tour of duty in Iraq from 2004-2006."
